Antiquity
Anambra — Isaiah Anozie, 1938; Thurstan Shaw, 1959
A farmer, Isaiah Anozie, struck bronze while digging a cistern at Igbo-Ukwu. Archaeologist Thurstan Shaw later dated a ritual store, a burial and a cache to about the 9th century CE. The famous roped pot is leaded bronze, among the earliest fine metalwork in West Africa.

The Nri sphere spread ritual authority, yam blessing and the ofo — the staff of truth. Igbo political culture is often called republican: many towns, few kings, much assembly.
Signs
Cross River / Arochukwu edge
Nsibidi is an old ideographic system used by Ekpe and related societies around the Cross River, including Arochukwu Igbo. Uli is Igbo women’s linear painting on skin and walls. They are not the same thing.

A young person serves a master trader, then is settled with capital. This built Onitsha Main Market, Aba workshops and Nnewi industry.

Igbo is endangered when children answer English only. Speak it in the kitchen. That is the work.
